WRITING PRESS RELEASES THAT WILL BE NOTICED

The 1-day workshop aims to help participants develop right techniques in writing press releases that will capture the attention of editors. Participants will be trained to find the strongest angle for the intro, write creatively and concisely, and avoid common pitfalls such as improper grammar and hyping. Participants will also be introduced to the common formats for press releases and other useful tips such as journalist contacts.

The workshop is suitable for PR officers and supervisors in the government, private sector and non-government organizations. It is also suitable for non-PR officers who are expected to put up the first draft of the press release. Non-PR personnel from organizations which do not have PR departments may also attend to acquire the knowledge so they can double up to perform the task when required.

The trainer, EDWARD TANG, is knowledgeable and experienced in this subject as he has operated on both sides of the fence. As a professional journalist for eight years, he has come across many press releases. More recently, as Deputy Director, Communications, in the Ministry of Community Development and Sports, he headed the media relations unit where his responsibilities included supervising officers in drafting and vetting press releases.
